Haiti - Elections : Privert, Message to the Nation

Tuesday, 5 days before the elections scheduled for 20 November, de facto President Jocelerme Privert launched an appeal to the population to encourage it to vote...

Message to the Nation of Privert :

"Haitian people,

The coming elections are fundamental to the future of the country's democracy.

The plight we are experiencing, the damage that Hurricane Matthew caused in the South, the $2 billion loss, many cities destroyed on the South Coast, huge devastation on agriculture, the environment, on fisheries, on livestock. Thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of compatriots are in distress.

It is not a provisional government in a few weeks that will bring the responses to all these evils.

Matthew did a lot of damage, because we did not respond to the previous disasters, we did not repair the damage they caused.

We will always have hurricanes, the devastators will always be like that.

Our ability to limit damage depends on our ability to rehabilitate, repair the damage that has just been done. It is not within the framework of an interim government that we can solve them.

The elections that arrive on Sunday, November 20, will allow legitimate authorities, who will have time, that will seek the means, both nationally and internationally, to face these challenges.

17,000 of our brothers and sisters who are now on the Mexican-American border have fled the country because of the deplorable situation in which their country lives, so that they return to live in their country like everyone else, Haiti must regains stability.

The country is poor, we are talking about $2 billion which are the country's budget, which is financed at around 30% [note HL 55/60%] by international aid, so that there is internal income in the country, so that jobs are created, in order for the conditions of the population to improve, there must be investments to be made in the country.

No one, neither Haitian nor foreign, will invest in a country where the rights of people are not respected, where the law is not respected and where there is political instability. They will come to invest in the country once the country has regained its stability.

These elections have one objective: to give stability to Haiti, it is only with stability that we will be able to find responses to all the evils we have described.

I invite you all Sunday, November 20 at 6:00 am, election card in hand to make the right choice, to allow people you trust, to people you know are interested in our future, who have the capacities to develop the country, to be elected President, Senators, Deputies, CASEC, ASEC.

I invite you to do this in our interest, because it is good for us.

The elections are on November 20th, do not miss the chance.

Haitian people I say thank you, to understand the message, I thank you for taking your destiny in hand with your ballot in your hands."
