Haiti - Politics : The Youth Government is sounding the alarm
Thursday at Alexandre Pétion high school, during a joint press conference Amos Cincir, the Young President of the Youth Government of Haiti (GJH) and Nephtaly Andoney Pierre-Louis, Head of the community engagement section of "World Merit Haiti" expressed their concerns about the deplorable situation in Haiti in the latest report of the recently published Commonwealth Youth Development Index.
This composite index brings together vital data on youth aged 15-29 in 183 countries. The index includes 18 indicators in five areas: health and well-being, education, employment & economic opportunity, civic participation and political participation. Haiti ranks 151 out of 183 countries and recorded one of the worst performances after Pakistan and Angola between 2010 and 2015.
According to Nephtaly Andoney Pierre-Louis Haiti achieved an overall score of 0.478, which corresponds to a variation of -8% compared to 2010. The reasons given by the report to justify this dizzy fall in the situation of young people in Haiti are : the low resilience of young Haitians facing natural disasters, political instability and the lack of a national youth policy to better manage this important segment of the population
In the run-up to the elections of November 20, the Young President of Haiti, Amos Cincir, for his part, considered that if no action is taken by the Haitian authorities, especially the future leaders of the country, this demographic bonus that represents this critical mass of young people will turn into a bomb.
