Haiti - Canada : $2 million additional assistance

Thursday, on behalf of the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, Emmanuel Dubourg, Member of Parliament for Bourassa and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue, announced an additional $2 million in humanitarian assistance funding in response to the impact of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti. "This new funding supports our humanitarian assistance to ensure the immediate need for drinking water, providing shelter and rehabilitating agriculture and livelihoods. These humanitarian initiatives will be conducted by four Canadian non-governmental organizations with experience working for several years in Haiti with local partners."

This brings Canada’s total humanitarian response to Hurricane Matthew in Haiti to $6.08 million.

For her part, the Minister Bibeau wished to stress "Canadian humanitarian partners have developed strong ties with their Haitian partners throughout our rich shared history. We continue to support immediate action to combat the dangers of cholera, to meet the urgent need for drinking water and to rapidly rehabilitate subsistence agriculture. The interventions announced today also meet the particular needs of women and girls while ensuring they can actively participate in their implementation."
