Haiti - FLASH : Matthew, the death toll considerably increases, more than 100 victims (UPDATE)

Following the last provisional assessment of COUN, dated Wednesday evening, on the number of victims, amounting to 23, following the passage of Hurricane Matthew on Haiti https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-18836-icihaiti-flash-matthew-23-dead-partial-provisional-assessment.html , this morning the authorities provided the figure of 108 dead.

According to the Directorate of Civil Protection the distribution is as follows: Grand'Anse 38, West 34, South 26, North West 1, Artibonite 3, Nippes 3 and South East 3.

However, the sole commune of Roche à Bateaux (South Department) 16.727 inhabitants (in 2009) would count 50 victims according to Deputy Ostin Pierre Louis. While according the departmental delegate there are at departmental level 64 fatalities.

The Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities, François Anick Joseph considers the balance sheet of 108 victims as very provisional, while informations begin to reach COUN for the Great South.
