Haiti - FLASH : The CEP back and removes the Community observers

Thursday during a press conference, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced that on October 9 finally there will be no deployment of Community observers as had hoped the initiator of this innovation Léopold Berlanger, with what he then named at the time the "witnesses"... https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-17726-haiti-news-zapping-politics.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-17961-haiti-elections-witnesses-become-of-community-observers.html . Of "witnesses" which was divided CEP and aroused various reactions in the political class and civil society, even after being renamed "Community observers".

This backward coincides curiously, a few hours after the Haitian Tèt Kale Party (PHTK) has filed a lawsuit against the CEP to protest against the illegal deployment of observers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18746-haiti-flash-lawyers-of-phtk-attack-in-justice-the-cep.html

However, according to the CEP this decision has nothing to do with the judicial summons of PHTK, but rather because after verification of already registered Community observers, proposed by the religious sector and electoral observation organizations (between 4,000 and 7,000 according to internal sources of the CEP), it turned out that more than a third of them were candidates or representatives of political parties or had used false National Identification Cards.

This is because it was impossible for the CEP, to know for sure who was who, or exercise control of these community observers, that the electoral institution has suspended the deployment of this observers category to the next elections on October 9, 2016.

A decision hailed, including by the Deputy of Delmas Gary Bodeau, Quaestor of the office of the Lower House "I welcome the decision of the CEP to withdraw these observers appointed for the candidates of the National Palace..."
