Wednesday in Haiti, supporters of Michel Martelly are still furious, following the exclusion of their candidate. After a night of violence which spread across the country, thousands of demonstrators converged early this morning at the downtown of the capital.

Recall that the preliminary results of the elections, were excluded from the second round, the candidate Martelly in favor of the government candidate, Jude Célestin, with only 6.845 votes of difference amid fraud and irregularities.

Prevented from approaching the presidential palace by anti-riot units, fans of the singer were then dispersed in groups throughout the city. Some brandished portraits of the candidate Martelly, others armed with sticks, hitting trash cans or threw stones and chanted slogans in favor of their candidate. Barricades were erected in the streets of Port-au-Prince.

The headquarters of INITE on the rue Rivière, was burned this morning in Port-au-Prince, by hooded demonstrators. Firefighters dispatched to the scene, trying to control the flames that ravaged the headquarters of the INITE party.

According to some observers, these events are the largest in the country since the election of President René Préval in 2006. Vestiges of the riots of the night, the dumpsters were dumped on the roadway where the carcasses of cars finished of burning. Most stores are still closed.
