Wednesday, Paul Harry Voltaire, the Secretary of State for Local Authorities and Jude Saint-Natus, Director General of the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) accompanied among others by Ruthlande Anglade, Director of Local Authorities and officials of the Legal Unit of the MICT, met with the Municipal Councils of Cabaret and Arcahaie after the incident occurred last Friday in the area of Matheux https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18547-haiti-politic-territorial-incident-between-cabaret-and-arcahaie.html

The meeting was held with the participation of the Departmental Delegate of West, Mrs. Dominique MerisePopote, of President of the National Federation of Mayors of Haiti, Jude Pierre Edouard and CASECS of the area.

The participants reflected and exchanged for over 6 hours on the issue of responsible territorial delimitation responsible for the tension between the Mayors of Arcahaie and Cabaret and having caused temporary paralysis of activities in the zone of Matheux.

Through this meeting, the Ministry intended inform elected officials of the handling by the MICT of the situation to Matheux, in order to prevent the deterioration of the situation and find as soon as possible a sustainable solution to the crisis.

Following the discussions, the Mayors of Cabaret and Arcahaie pledged to suspend all actions or movements that may affect the security and peace in the zone.

The Secretary of State Voltaire, invited the mayors to respect their commitments and asked the municipal authorities to promote dialogue and legal means to resolve their territorial disputes, noting that the law specifies that the institutions have to deal with the issue of territorial delimitation, which does not fall under municipal jurisdiction.
