Haiti - Economy : Beginning of Census of properties built in PAP for their taxation

Friday at a press conference, the new mayor of Port-au-Prince Youri Chevry, the assessors mayors and Richard Lafrance, Responsible for the support component to Port-au-Prince, of the municipal program of cooperation Haiti-Canada, announced the beginning Monday, of partial Census of properties built in Port-au-Prince in order to generate some financial autonomy for the capital.

"Today we are talking about a tax mobilization project in order to allow the town hall of Port-au-Prince to recover its financial autonomy and allow the city administration, to provide good services to its citizens," indicated Richard Lafrance.

This partial census will cost 300,000 US dollars, it will start on Monday 29 August and will last 3 months.

Nearly 80 investigators and supervisors constituted in constituted 40 teams of 2 people have been trained on census techniques, the basic knowledge of cartography, tax, legal foundations, the declaration form of the rental value etc... hey will be deployed on the ground in targeted priority neighborhoods by the town hall.

"From this census, the city administration will know the needs, in terms of construction of new infrastructure in the context of the reconstruction," said the mayor Chevry, noting that it will also allow the Municipal Council to have an estimate of the money to be collected on built properties.
