This week the Colombian police have informed having intercepted 392 Haitian citizens, including 38 minors, in the municipality of Ipiales (South), which were made available to the Colombia Immigration Office. Haitians were arrested during the weekend in raids led in the transport terminal of Ipiales, town of department of Nariño, near the border with Ecuador.

Police stated in a statement that the Haitian "pretended to want to get to Cali," the capital of the department of Valle del Cauca, but when asked to identify "they presented their passports without the migration official seal of legal entry into Colombia."

These migrants in an irregular migratory situation were handed over to the Colombian immigration. Recall that the Colombian authorities have stepped up controls to prevent the passage of illegal immigrants after the town of Turbo, the main port of the Caribbean region of Urabá, to the Panama border.

Furthermore Tuesday, on the sidelines of the inauguration of President Danilo Medina, the Head of the Panamanian diplomacy Isabel De Saint Malo, expressed the Haitian Chancellor Pierrot Délienne, the concern of his Government on the increasing pace of Haitians of passage into the country asking him to take measures to discourage the flow of irregular Haitian migrants heading through Central America, with a final destination the United States.

The Haitian Chancellor expressed the commitment of his country to identify Haitians who today are on Panamanian territory and to discourage the flow of migrants from Haiti.

In addition, Jose Luis Lozano, the regional delegate of the National Migration Institute (INM) in the southern part of Honduras, reported that more than a hundred Haitian citizens were detained by immigration officials at Honduras, on the border with Nicaragua. These illegal migrants were taken to the regional office of the National Migration Institute.
