Haiti - FLASH : Attack of the Sun Auto S.A.

For some time, of impostors, with the complicity of police and judicial authorities, are ngaged in violent operations of eviction and vandalism in the context of alleged land disputes. Thursday the premises of the SunAuto in Tabarre were victim in broad daylight of these armed individuals.

The facts :

A bailiff, accompanied by a Justice of Peace who refused to identify himself of, armed and hooded civilians and PNH officers, invaded the premises of the SunAuto to run a land dispossession judgment in which do not appear either the SA SunAuto name nor that of its CEO, Daniel Gérard Rouzier. In other words, the judge of Peace enforcing orders that had absolutely nothing to do with SunAuto.

They disarmed the security guards and ransacked the facilities, paint graffiti, brutalized some employees and affixed to the greatest illegality sealed. They then at gunpoint, put padlocks on the institution's premises, enclosing more than forty employees surprised by this attack and then went and stood in front of the SunAuto. This sequestration lasted nearly 8 hours before the police will come deliver employees and render the owners of the SunAuto their business.

Strong reaction from the American Chamber of Commerce of Haiti :

In a note dated Friday, the American Chamber of Commerce in Haiti (AmCham) condemns with the utmost rigor, this armed attack perpetrated against the SunAuto.

"This odious act is unacceptable and must be condemned with the utmost rigor. The AmCham requests the Government, the Ministry of Justice, the National Police of Haiti and the Superior Council of the Judiciary to pronounce and take responsibility, each in respect, to ensure that such acts do not recur in the country and to take all necessary measures to immediately pursue impostors, bandits and their accomplices perpetrators [...]

The AmCham reminds everyone that the Haitian private sector already operates in an extremely precarious environment and that it is consents of enormous sacrifices to maintain and preserve the jobs it provides. Allow bandits and impostors to attack private property and calls into question the very foundations of the Haitian nation and can not be tolerated by the State.

The AmCham presents its sympathies to the owners and SunAuto well as its employees and customers who have been affected by these acts of vandalism and encourage them not to be intimidated and to continue to work to strengthen the national economy. The Haitian private sector will remain strong, resilient and confident in the future."
