Haiti - Economy : Customs shipments of textile sector threatened by neglect

The Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH) was informed that the electronic link of the electronic Visa function "Electronic Visa Information System" (ELVIS) is suspended because the service in the USA has not received payment of Haiti for 5 months.

LADH regrets that this is not the first time that such negligence endangers the customs shipments of textile sector in Haiti and hope that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) will take steps as soon as possible.

The Electronic Visa Information System (ELVIS) is a program developed by the United States Customs Service (Customs) that uses electronic data transmissions for information, particularly visa stamps, normally found on commercial invoices.

ELVIS also assists Customs efforts to monitor textile quotas, thereby ensuring that proper restraint levels are charged. Foreign countries participating in ELVIS transmit information via a global network service provider. This allows connectivity to Customs Automated Commercial System (ACS). The electronic linkage permits the participating country to transmit data elements...
