Haiti - Education : Towards a green School in Panyol !

This week, Dr. Louis G. Lamothe Foundation (FLGL), the Foundation Rapino, Haitian company GS Group and landscape architect Françoise Kénol Behrman, had a working session to explore the possibility of implementing green spaces around and inside of the new building of Classic Training Center of Panyol (Kenscoff).

This approach will strengthen the skills of students, of their entourages and teachers involved in environmental revitalization of their living environment through contact with several kinds of vegetation in and around the school premises. Indeed, the results of the study by Professor Mark Nieuwenhuijsen (2015) confirmed that children learning capabilities develop faster when hey are exposed to green spaces in their daily life in school (less exposure to pollution and less stress).

The two Foundations fully support the thesis of Nieuwenhuijsen, which encourages schools to plant trees, provide them with gardens, reintroducing the grass in the playground, putting green plants in classrooms and hallways, buy natural furniture.
