Haiti - Politic : Launch of the sectoral table «School Feeding»

This Friday morning at the Marriott Hotel, the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), is launching the sectoral table "School Feeding" in the presence of the Minister Dorsonne and representatives: of technical and financial partners, of Professional Agricultural Associations, NGOs, Civil Society and the private sector, members of the Working Group established in June 2015 by the Minister of Education.

Recall that the sectoral table "School Feeding" has for main mandate to ensure the alignment of actions of sector on the National Policy and Strategy of School Feeding (PSNAS), fruit of the efforts concerted of actors gathered in the Working Group and to support the implementation of the Action Plan.

The school feeding policy refers to the vision of a universal feedinf by 2030. It is justified by the need to have children in good nutritional health so that they are able to learn to school.

The PSNAS is oriented around 3 main areas of strategic interventions :

  • The provision of quality food services in schools (Snack and hot meals) with the participation of the private sector and associations. The snack provides the most benefits for local development at lower cost. By cons, hot meals, more important, offers more benefits in terms of social safety net and food security ;

  • The support for the local economy and local food production by requiring that the latter enter almost exclusively in the basket of food provided in schools ;

  • The development of national capacities for the proper management of school feeding activities, specifically requiring institutional strengthening of the National Program of School Canteen (PNCS)around its main role of setting standards, coordination and management of operator contracts and the commitment of local governments and communities in decentralized implementation modalities.
