Haiti - Elections : Fidel Castro critical the candidates

Former Cuban leader of 84 years old, Fidel Castro, who handed over power to his brother Raul, for health reasons, on Wednesday called in the local press, to fight and defeat the cholera epidemic in Haiti.

He stressed that if cholera is not defeated in Haiti, it could become endemic in this country, and threaten in a permanent way the Caribbean, the Latin America and other Third World countries. "Our country is currently engaged in a battle against cholera in Haiti," said the Cuban leader.

Recall that over 1,200 Cuban doctors and nurses fighting alongside Americans against the epidemic and that nearly 27,000 people affected by the disease, were treated by the Cuban teams.

About the elections, the Cuban Communist leader, said he was concerned about reports in the international press, describing the spread of violence in Haiti after the elections. He criticized indirectly, the presidential candidates, for their lack of responsibility "it is the candidates themselves, who call people to demonstrate in the streets", while the country is in health crisis, stressing, "with such actions, it is impossible to defeat the epidemic".
