Haiti - Elections : Frauds, Charles Henri Baker remains firm

A planned movement of large scale fraud has prompted, Sunday, 15 of the 18 presidential candidates to call, to the annulation of the elections. Speaking to the local and international press, 12 candidates have signed a joint statement denounced "the hijacking of the electoral process throughout the country" by the "corrupt regime of President Preval" and claimed a new elctions "We recovered recorded data to prove fraud organized at high-level" said Mirlande Manigat.

Following this joint statement, Charles Henri Baker confirms his position and that of his party "RESPÉ"

  • Considering that after having deployed more than 11.000 representatives in the polling stations, the political party RESPÈ was seen denying the access to the initial vote and the observation in more than 80% of the offices;

  • Considering the fact that most political parties, except the power, have been denied access to their representatives at various levels ;

  • Considering the fact that a significant number of citizens could not vote due to mass confusion caused primarily by movement of voters from their respective polling center, and also by disparities between the lists of voters and the "listes d’émargement" ;

  • Considering that across the country armed groups entered systematically removing ballot boxes in the centers where it was clear that, by the positions taken by the people, the vote they would not be favorable ;

  • Considering that owing to nomination of supervisors in key centers and owing to the exclusion of the representatives; systematic stuffings of the ballot boxes were conducted in many centers across the country ;

  • Considering that the political party RESPÈ documented before justice, multiple irregularities in mega-cities like the Lycée Pétion, the Lycée Toussaint Louverture and others, including the arrest of a member of INIT trying to stuff ballot boxes at polling center Sylvio Cator ;

  • Considering that the party RESPÈ has formally notified the CEP of these irregularities and and of its request for cancellation of the elections of November 28th, 2010 ;

  • Considering that many national and international representatives have found that this day was an "electoral masquerade" and a disastrous election day ;

    In light of these considerations, the political party RESPÈ confirmed by its President, Mr. Charles Henri Baker, its position that the November 28, 2010, the Haitian people could not freely and peacefully express its voice, his civic right and that the votes have not been met by the procedures of the electoral law.

    Consequently, we support the initial position of all candidates gathered at the Karibe Hotel, that elections should be annulled. Even if there were defections to this principled position, we maintain that these elections are unacceptable.

    President of Party RESPE
