Haiti - Environment : In Loéménard, Desras notes the risks and promises action

This week, before leaving the country to New York https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-17231-haiti-environment-dieuseul-desras-to-the-signing-ceremony-of-the-paris-agreement-cop21.html , Simon Dieuseul Desras, the new Minister of the Environment, particularly following the recent floods, went successively to Loéménard, to Laboule and Léogâne for an assessment tour.

Accompanied among others by his Director General

and some other members of his Cabinet, the Minister Desras first went to Loémenard (Juvenat) in order to note the extreme vulnerability of residents due to blockage of the gully of the same name by alluvium, rubble, embankments and tons of garbage...

"This is an assessment visit for a better planning of actions," declared the Minister to the residents explaining that an cleaning work upstream and downstream of watershed is necessary to avoid the worst. Meanwhile, the Minister Desras promised that his administration would mobilize financial resources to clean the gully, before the wet season urging people to get involved in this work.

Besides the gully Loéménard, the Minister also visited the exploitation site of sand quarries of Laboule and the Rouyonne river in Léogâne.
