Haiti - Elections : Meeting of the Head of State with the members of CEP

Tuesday at the National Palace the President a.i. Jocelerme Privert, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Enex Jean-Charles, of the Secretary General of the Primature, Ms. Maridès Ménager Alexandre and of Minister of Economy and Finance, Yves Romain Bastien, met with the 9 members of the CEP on the prospects of fulfilling the mission of the Electoral Council. Among the items discussed: the question of the balance of the budget on the total amount of financing of elections, and the institution's debts vis-à-vis the different electoral staff.

In preparation for the outcome of the electoral process, the CEP proposed the immediate implementation of an action plan that include among others :

  • An evaluation of the electoral machine and the institutional framework ;

  • The dialogue between the CEP, governments and civil society on the corrections to be applied for a more transparent and strict management of the electoral process ;

  • The strengthening of the autonomy of the CEP and the modernization of the electoral machinery ;

  • The reopening of the municipal file.

Besides discussions on the Action Plan of the CEP, was discussed also the electoral register which includes 400,000 new voters according to data presented by the National Identification Office (ONI).

Finally, the Head of State reminded the members of the CEP the urgency of the hour and the expectations of various sectors. The members of the Electoral Council promised to work quickly on corrections to be applied in the electoral process.
