Haiti - Weather : Torrential rain, partial flooding of Léogâne

The torrential rains that have battered Léogâne (West), on the night of April 12 to 13 caused flooding in at least 7 neighborhoods of the city : Dampus, Malbou, Cada, Pompè, Cité-Marcel, Bineau L’ester and Pont-Vincent, due to the overflow of the river Rouyonne, caused by the silting of the riverbed.

Many residents took shelter on the roofs or walls of their homes. 773 families are affected according to Deputy Acting Mayor Jonas Bertrang. Besides material damage, many livestock have been washed away.

In a statement, the Prime Minister, Enex Jean-Charles testifies his sympathy and solidarity with all the victims of floods caused by torrential rains and overflowing of the river Rouyonne in Léogâne.

The head of government said it was informed of the first measures taken by the local authorities and informs that it rushed to mobilize the relevant bodies the level of government for taking emergency measures and exceptional measures to saving lives and property.
