Haiti - Elections : The CEP at 12 days of voting

At 12 days before the election, the Provisional Electoral Council worked hard for the success of the elections, said Monday, Dumesle Richardson, spokesman for the CEP. However, rumors about a possible postponement of the elections have bounced back on Monday in Port-au-Prince after the statements by Nigel Fisher, coordinator of humanitarian action for the United Nations in Haiti "We have case in all departments," said Fisher, "although the Haitian authorities this weekend said that only six of the ten departments have been affected by the disease" stressing that "According to epidemiologists, the number of cases will increase significantly".

The most recent assessment (November 14, 2010) published on Tuesday by the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) reported 16.799 hospitalization since the beginning of the epidemic and 1.034 deaths at the national level, nothing to reassure voters. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-1676-haiti-epidemic-16799-cases-declared-1034-deaths-the-riposte-intensifies.html

Moreover, the fear of another epidemic, but this time of violence, hovering over the country after the riots on Monday in Cap Haitien and the increasing acts of intimidation to the approach of the poll.

The CEP confirmed that the 24,000 electoral kits (ballot boxes, polling booths etc...) have have already been distributed in different regions of the country, and that the 14 million ballots are printed and being packaged for distribution. The spokesman indicated that the CEP had elaborateda visits schedule of the Central Tabulation of Votes (Centre de Tabulation des Votes CTV) between November 15 and 25 in order to raise awareness about the role and functioning of the CTV.

Dumesle Richardson said that a call center is available for voters to help them know how and where to vote. On this last point, the CEP spokesman said that only voters who appear on the electoral roll and who are holders of a National Identification Card (CIN) have the right to vote. Stating that receipts from an Operation Center and Verification (VOCs) do not replace the CIN and do not allow a person to exercise his right to vote.

Concerning the list of voters he recalled that it had not been purified. Information confirmed last month by Colin Granderson, head of the joint OAS / CARICOM, which had specified that the database established by the National Identification Office (ONI) sent to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) included 6.1 % of persons enrolled but died. The purification of the list not having been able to be made for lack of a death certificate. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-1535-haiti-elections-colin-granderson-an-excessive-optimism.html
