This week, the Director of Immigration, General Paulino Sem Dario revealed that since the return process began in August 2015, more than 20,000 foreigners (mostly Haitians) that were irregular migratory situation in the Dominican Republic were repatriated.

He said that since the beginning of 2016, more than 5,000 people of all nationalities, most of them Haitians were repatriated.

He assured that the repatriation operations continue to operate normally and that surveillance at the border level had been strengthened to prevent the inconvenience of illegal who want to enter Dominican territory.

Let us recall that from June 2015 to December 2015, according to information released by the Dominican General Directorate of Migration, 129,000 illegal immigrants of Haitian origin, left the Dominican Republic to return to Haiti, most under a "voluntary" form. Only 15.863 nationals of different countries were repatriated because was nor part f the National Regularization of Foreigners Plan (PNRE) and not having immigration documents required by the Law 285-04 which regulates the migration to the Dominican Republic.

Repatriations and returns for the month of January 2016 according to the GAAR :

2,418 returnees (Malpasse : 303, Ouanaminthe : 791, Belladère : 527, Autres : 797)

5,031 "voluntary" returns.

Note that this high number can be explained in part by the coercive measures taken by the Dominican authorities against Dominican employers that use illegal labor, caused waves of layoffs of foreign (mostly Haitian) and many of our compatriots who prefer to return to Haiti by themselves, to avoid forced deportation.
