Haiti - Politic : Michaëlle Jean welcomes the republican spirit of negotiations

Michaëlle Jean, the Secretary General of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), welcomes the signing by the executive and legislative branches of the political agreement for the institutional continuity and the continuation of the electoral process in Haiti "I welcome the outcome of the dialogue led with determination, which suggests that Haiti will out of a situation with disastrous consequences for the population, for the country, its growth and development."

The Secretary-General also welcomes the republican spirit that marked the negotiations of this agreement and that has resulted in the inclusion of respect for constitutional provisions applicable in the present circumstances. She notes that this consensual political solution, will allow to complete in confidence, inclusively and in a peaceful climate, the electoral process "I urge all Haitian actors to maintain the momentum of dialogue and consensus in the implementation of this agreement."

Moreover, Michaëlle Jean encourage all international partners to intensify their support of the electoral process to help restore full democratic and institutional life and the strengthening of social cohesion. Adding "Haiti needs the support of all its partners to develop institutions with capacities to meet the considerable challenges of democratic consolidation and economic and social development, that the country is facing."

The Secretary-General reiterates the availability of the OIF, to provide support to the ongoing process and to the Haitian institutions and actors, including through the mobilization of technical and electoral expertise.
