Haiti - Carnival 2016 : 12,000 police mobilized

Friday at the initiative of Prime Minister Evans Paul, took place a meeting at the extraordinary of the Supreme Council of the National Police (CSPN) in the context of provisions for the proper conduct of carnival festivities, scheduled for 7, 8 and 9 February.

The CSPN took the opportunity to confirm the measures to ensure security and public order, in the political context in which the constitutional expiration of the mandate of President Martelly, coincides with the first day of National Carnival where opposition demonstrations are announced.

Commissioner Frantz Lerebours, spokesman of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) indicated that the high command of the PNH had decided to suspend all vacation and permissions of agents. Specialized units, administrative and judicial police will be committed to ensure public order, or a total of 12,000 men. PNH inspectors will be placed in various points to control the actions of security forces

Public buildings, strategic places, politicians, revelers as well as the planned planned demonstrations will be secured. The perimeter of the carnival will be under the supervision of specialized units of the PNH. Hot spots on the course will be protected by the agents of Corps of Intervention and Maintenance of Order (CIMO).

Prime Minister Paul also asked the various sectors of the country to observe the principles of operation of the rule of law, based on respect for the law and non-violence. He also called on revelers to have fun in the discipline and order and invited the public to the serenity and respect of the rules of the "Living Together".
