Haiti - Elections : «There will be elections this January 24» dixit Michel Martelly

This evening the President Martelly addressed the Nation and confirmed that the elections will take place this Sunday, January 24, 2016.

Excerpt from the speech of President Martelly :

"[...] Despite all the efforts we have made it was difficult to find an agreement, each person, each group do something one way, the right way for them, in their petty interests, there is no many who see the benefit of Haiti, of the people [...]

I think about how much Electoral Council we have put in place to achieve these elections, it is in dialogue at the Kinam hotel in December 2014 that the political opposition parties have formed that CEP, they are the ones who choose how to compose the CEP, the people who will be part. Everyone knows that neither the Executive nor the President Martelly has a representative in the CEP [...]

This CEP ade the election of August 9, October 25, and it will make an election on January 24 to allow you to choose a President and complete the Parliament with deputies and senators.

My term ends February 7, 2016, yes February 7 the President Martelly will leave the National Palace, since my swearing in 2011 I always said I would go away February 7, 2016 because we want the country eenter on the way of the Constitution [...] that is why we want that the February 7, is respected.

Things must be done and they will be done in the order and discipline.

As the country's Constitution asks it, February 7 I will hand over power to another President coming from an election, what makes there will be elections this January 24.

It is on this road that we are since August 9, the road of elections [...] we will stay on this road, because this is the road that is good for the country, it's the road taht the Constitution trace [...]

Haitians, sisters and brothers, the game is clear now, as the CEP has requested it, we convened the people into elections for January 24 [...] this is the road to democracy, it is the road that will bring stability to the country.

There is a group of people who do not want peace in the country, these people are not in the election, not in democracy, they want a transitional government, to put a transitional government that would require election does not make January 24, 2016 [...]

We asked the police and justice to take all measures to protect the lives and property of all, I spent formal instructions to the police to take all arrangements for order and calm returns throughout the national territory, and the order will be made to protect all the people who will decide to vote Sunday, January 24, 2016.

We encourage everyone to come out that day to vote for persons of their choice.

[...]

I wish all the candidates good luck

Vive Haiti in peace, with respect for one another

God bless Haiti

Ayibobo pou pèp Ayisyen"
