Haiti - Elections : Candidates from the opposition, deprived of government aid

The candidates of political parties UCCAD, Libération, Rassemblé and Alternative which chose to boycott the elections, have serious difficulties in finding financial resources to campaign because of the refusal of those parties to cash checks from the Ministry of Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT).

Former deputy Steven Benoit, candidate for Senate under the banner of alternative platforms, said that 3 million gourds are available at the MICT, however due to the refusal of the platform to cash, the 78 candidates of the organization are not able to use them.

Dr. Turneb Delpé, head of the platform Rassemblé, for his part said that "that it is not question of cashing a check of the MICT to allow candidates to campaign." He said that it would be illogical to seek such funds "as we are against these elections," stressing that, contrary to what some candidates say, the decision not to go in the elections have not taken unilaterally. It seems clear for this person in charge, that the line of party takes precedence over the volte face of certain candidates, after this decision.
