Haiti - Politic : Bicentenary of the encounter between Simón Bolívar and Alexandre Pétion

Saturday, on the occasion of bicentenary of the first encounter between Simón Bolívar and President of the first Republic of the Americas, General Alexandre Pétion (2 January 1816) Nicolas Maduro the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in a note of Ministry of Popular Power of Foreign Affairs, greeted the Republic of Haiti, its government and its heroic people.

"In those days, our Liberator Simón Bolívar, the man of difficulties, came to Haiti defeated, without money, nor army, but with the firm conviction that was possible the renaissance and the realization of their independence, the liberation and revolutionary ideology in Venezuela, immersed in the colonial restoration after the fall of the Second Republic.

Today we can proudly say that the vision of Pétion has significantly influenced the social concept of the War of Independence. His stay in Haiti, has certainly changed for ever the course of subsequent events, with the help of the people he made an army, now more aware that the revolution was the only way to meet their spiritual and material demands.

The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela wishes to take this opportunity to honor the historical debt of gratitude and solidarity that unites us with Haiti and these great struggles of resistance.

A 200 year struggle for independence and equality, the battle continues.

Vive Haiti and Venezuela !

Vive the Revolution in Latin America and the Caribbean !

Vive Pétion !

Vive Bolívar !"
