Haiti - Elections : Citizens divided about the held of the next elections

The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) is confident to be able to meet the election timetable, despite persistent rumors about a possible postponement of the poll.

Dumesle Richardson, spokesman for the CEP, informs that the printing of ballot papers is almost complete and only the ballot of candidates for deputies are not yet ready.

He said that a Venezuelan ship arrived Tuesday in Port-au-Prince, with material and equipment for the establishment of sixty mobile units, 30 vehicles, 11 generators and computer equipment.

Dumesle Richardson gave assurances that the cholera epidemic will not prevent the CEP to be present in all regions of the country.

However, in Port-au-Prince, the opinions of the citizens diverge. Some believe that elections should be held as planned despite the outbreak and damage caused by Hurricane Tomas. Others believe instead that the poor conditions of life, floods and cholera, should be the priority of the government instead of a poll which will, in any case neither honest nor credible.
