Demonstration under tension

Wednesday, at the call of Fanmi Lavalas, the platform "Pitit Dessalin" and the mobilization table of the democratic opposition, close to the G-8 thousands of people demonstrated once again in Port-au-Prince against the election results. The protesters were demanding for the umpteenth time, the establishment of an independent Verification Commission, the resignation of the members of the CEP and departure of power in place.

A situation of tension and panic reigned on the road of airport not far from the Votes Tabulation Centre (SONAPI) where was heading the demonstrators, when blue helmets have fired into the air and threw tear gas to disperse the crowd, explaining that their vehicle was attacked with stones by protesters.

Statement of Laurent Lamothe

Former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe said "To save the country and go out of the crisis resulting from the elections of 9 August and 25 October, the players must sign an agreement [...] the legitimacy of the next Head of State is a must."

Mgr Guire Poulard in favor of a Verification Commission

Mgr Guire Poulard, Metropolitan Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, endorsed the option of the formation of an independent commission of verification of elections.

Colonel Himmler Rébu fears a clash...

Colonel Himmler Rébu said he was in favor of a credible verification of the elections of 25 October, which would allow the continuation of the electoral process, saying the players involved in the process can not go back. He said also fear that the situation degenerate into clash.

Rudy Hérivaux calls for an agreement between the two candidates

Rudy Hérivaux, former Minister of Communication called on the two presidential candidates selected for the 2nd round, scheduled on December 27, to reach agreement so that the elections are conducted in a calm atmosphere, saying he was opposed to a transition and even to the establishment of an Verification Commission. According to him, a postponement of the date of the second round is possible, if Jude Célestin and Jovenel Moïse agree on it.
