Haiti - Justice : Good Practice Guide on minors in conflict with the law

The Office of Citizen Protection (OPC) in partnership with Lawyers Without Borders Canada (LWBC) officially launched the Good Practice Guide on minors in conflict with the law in Haiti, the launch took place in the context of a two-day workshop to raise awareness for Haitian judges around the theme "juvenile justice faced prolonged pretrial detention: words and deeds of magistrates".

The guide is for stakeholders in the Haitian justice acting with minors in conflict with the law. It deals with the criminal proceedings against juveniles and appropriate national and international standards. It contains a set of useful measures to lawyers to fight against prolonged pretrial detention of minors in Haiti.

Without claiming to offer ready-made solutions, this guide provides lawyers and other legal actors, tools and some good practices to work with the various components of the justice system in the best interest of children without freedom.

The publication of this document was made possible with funding from the Swiss Cooperation in Haiti, as part of the project "Contribution to the emergence and consolidation of good practice in the legal statement regarding human rights and access to justice in Haiti".

The Guide follows a workshop held in December 2014 in Port-au-Prince around juvenile justice in Haiti. The workshop organized by the Office for the protection of the citizen and Lawyers Without Borders Canada with a contribution of the Oppressed Defenders Association, brought together key players in the criminal justice system in Haiti.
