Haiti - Tourism : First Hibiscus Classification Guide

Thursday, Stéphanie Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) accompanied by Berthide Noailles, responsible for the national firm specializing in classification of tourist establishments ProTourisme, officially launched the first Hibiscus Classification Guide (GCH).

This new reference document produced jointly by the Corporation of the Quebec Tourism Industry (CITQ) and ProTourisme, will put operators of hotel accommodation in the fragrance of the criteria for the next Hibiscus Classification Campaign planned for the spring of the year 2016.

The GCH contains 7 main sections corresponding to the different parts evaluated : rooms, bathrooms, food, interiors, outside the building, services, activities and facilities on the premises, and sustainable tourism.

While that for the first Hibiscus Classification campaign alone the existence of criteria were taken into account to assign a score, the new classification system adds 4 new variables: criterion level, condition, and the elements of demerits and bonuses.

The Minister Villedrouin mentions that the quality required of tourist establishments in welcoming visitors must be valid for both national and international tourism. "Visitors should require the classification panonceau of operators," argued the Minister of Tourism, adding that the Hibiscus Classification Guide is available at the Ministry for operators in order to comply as quickly as for having a better ranking synonym of more hibiscus.

Remember that the Hibiscus classification does not take into account the quality of the service offeredby the establishments. However, through its Training Department, the MCIT intends to support operators in improving the quality of service. A program "Qualicert" will soon be developed in this sense.

By January 2016, the criteria contained in the Hibiscus Classification Guide will officially enter into force.
