Haiti - Politic : Jesús Gracia met Michel Martelly

On Monday, the Secretary of State for Cooperation and Latin America (Iberoamerica), Jesús Gracia, visited Haiti and had the opportunity to meet with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and head of the UN Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Sandra Honoré, with whom he exchanged views on the future of the MINUSTAH in the country and reiterated the support of Spain to the latter.

The Secretary of State was received by Haitian President Michel Martelly, at the Presidential Palace, with whom he was able to note the good state of bilateral relations between the two countries. The President Martelly thanked Spain for the excellent cooperation with Haiti and showed himself convinced and willing that it be extended to his successor and with the new government.

The Secretary of State also met with various personalities from politics and national affairs, to get information at first hand about the atmosphere that experiencing Haiti after the elections on 25 October and the prospect of the second round of presidential elections on December 27; its economic situation and the opportunities for cooperation and investment for Spain in Haiti.

Finally, the Secretary of State took an interest in economic and trade relations with the neighboring Dominican Republic as an essential aspect of the bilateral relationship, and opportunities for strengthening cooperation with the support of Spain.
