Haiti - Economy : Strike watchword in transportation maintained

Although last Friday, Prime Minister Evans Paul announced the withdrawal of several measures of increases unpopular, particularly those related to the license prices https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15695-haiti-flash-government-back-face-the-threats-of-strikes-and-social-disorders.html main claim of the National Platform of Unions of Transport Faithful (PNSTF) https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-15669-icihaiti-ultimatum-general-strike-threats-in-transport.html (which includes twenty union organizations), the PNSRF announced the same day on a radio station of the capital, the maintaining of the watchword of national strike for this Monday and Tuesday.

According to the Spokesperson of the trade union platform, this decision is justified by the lack of publication of a new decree confirming these removing. Yet on Friday the Prime Minister had clearly announced the forthcoming publication of the official decision.

The hard line adopted by the PNSTF is difficult to explain, as the Government has demonstrated good will by sacrificing its fiscal balance in favor of social peace, in order inter alia to avoid the strike in transportation, at a time when the social climate in Haiti is very tense, following the publication of preliminary results of the elections of 25 October.

Let's wish it's a misunderstanding and that the parties involved, will dialogue Sunday to prevent to the economy and the population two days of unnecessary chaos.
