Haiti - Economy : Inauguration of the Savings and Credit Cooperative of Malpasse

Sunday, Max Antoine, the Executive Director of the Technical Commission of Borders (CBC) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14817-haiti-politic-towards-a-better-management-of-borders.html accompanied by several members of the Cabinet of the Minister of Economy and Finance and National Leaders of Haitian truckers unions, represented the Minister Wilson Laleau, to the General Assembly and the inauguration of the Savings and Credit Cooperative of Malpasse (CECREM).

Set up with the collaboration of the National Council of Cooperatives (CNC), the Cooperative will benefit from a start-up fund of 30 million gourdes from the Haitian government through the Ministry of Economy.

This decision applauded by border populations is part of the various support measures, following the government's decision to redirect to other ports certain products transiting by land. The CECREM will facilitate access to direct credit to merchants and other entrepreneurs from the border area to strengthen their supply capacity and make them more competitive.

Emmanuel Antoine, General Director of the CNC, which proceeded to the presentation of certificates to the qualified members and commended the government for this laudable initiative, launched a warning against any attempt to use these funds for any other purpose that the mission of this association and the interest of its members.

In his message of circumstance, Max Antoine, reiterated, on behalf of Minister Leleau, the commitment of President Michel Martelly, to promote the economic and social integration of all categories of the society and announced that this initiative of economic solidarity will be extended soon to border cities of Belladère, Ouanaminthe and Anse-à-Pitres.

Other measures to strengthen the security of land borders, sea and air are under study, as well as strong provisions to strengthen the capacity of the customs administration to collect more taxes in the ports of entry of the territory ; because now the country should also rely on its own financial resources.

Furthermore, the General Assembly of the CRCERM, elected a Board of Directors whose Ms. Marie Michelle Polynice Laguerre is President.
