Haiti - Culture : Exhibition-sale «Les rayons du Soleil»

There are more than 40 years, to Soisson-la-Montagne, Garoute Jean Claude "Tiga" and Maud Robart launched a unique and fruitful popular artistic experience, giving brushes, paints and pigments to the inhabitants of the area. The movement of the painters Saint Soleil was born, privileging the intuition on academicism. A voodoo art that transfigures reality and much akin to primitive art, raw art, free art than in the open art practiced by the CoBrA group. Acclaimed by Malraux, the works know an international reputation.

The opening of the exhibition "Les rayons du Soleil" will be held Wednesday, September 16 at 6:00 pm, with the artists: : Levoy Exil, Martial Edouard, Onel and Richard Nesly.

his exhibition aims to highlight their work and to privilege the purchase of works directly with the artist, without intermediaries. For this, the artists will hold sales-permanence on 16, 18 and 24 September 2015 between 4:00 and 7:00 pm

Location : Institut français en Haïti - 99, rue Lamartinière, Bois Verna, Port-au-Prince.

Learn more about the arti :

Levoy Exil :

Leading figure of the movement Saint Soleil, Levoy Exil born in Fermathe in 1944. Son of a farmer, he worked as a mason before meeting Jean-Claude Garoute and Maud Robart who founded the group Saint Soleil in his native village. He joined the movement and founded the Cinq Soleils (Louisiane Saint Fleurant, Denis Smith, Paul Dieuseul, Levoy Exil, Prospère Pierre Louis). Intense and colorful patterns surrounded by dots lines "of light", his works are exhibited in nearly sixty countries.

Martial Edouard :

Born in 1978 in Fermathe, Soisson-la-Montagne, Martial Edouard began painting in 1996 with Levoy Exile and Jean Claude Garoute (Tiga), founder of the Saint Soleil, with whom he shares several exhibitions. He then joined a woodworking shop and became a sculptor.

Onel (Lionel Paul) :

Born March 2, 1966 in Soisson-la-Montagne, Onel belongs to the younger generation (3rd wave) of the movement of "Nouveaux Saint Soleil". Since his childhood, he was initiated in the arts in the school of Fermathe led by Lucienne Simeus, wife of Levoy Exile. Lionel Paul became an apprentice in the workshop Levoy Exile in 1973. In 1989, under the leadership of Tiga and inspired by his entourage (including his aunt, seamstress) he starts to recycle textiles and sawdust that he uses as collage and combines it with acrylic paint. It is one of the few artists who stand out from traditional modes of figuration of the movement Saint Soleil to propose innovative forms.

Richard Nesly :

Born November 26th 1979 in Port-au-Prince, Nesly met for the first time his father while he has ten years : Antilhomme Richard is then one of the great figures of Saint Soleil. Yet it is from the artist Maiko, which solicits him to prepare his frame and prime the canvases, he learned the techniques of painting. He finds over time a styleown to him. His painting, tinted with voodoo, magic, deploys with singularity to lie on canvas fantasy characters, devils and entanglements of symbols "Vévé".
