Candidates of VERITE confirm their withdrawal from the electoral race

The candidates of the platform VERITE endorsed the decision of the Executive Board of the latter to withdraw from the electoral race in protest against the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). Gérard Joseph, the General Coordinator of the platform VERITE said that candidates of the platform supported the withdrawal of their formation from elections and the requirement for the formation of another CEP. Candidates have promised to fight until the resignation of the members of the CEP, a decision in consultation with the Executive Board.

Opont will not resign

"Political parties have the full right to contest the election process. This is not the CEP, who is responsible for various acts of violence and ransacking of polling stations," recalled Pierre-Louis Opont, President of the CEP, reaffirming its determination to not resign.

The streets always hot in Port-au-Prince

Friday, at the call of the National Front of coordination of candidates for the democratic struggle, more than a thousand people have took the streets of Port-au-Prince to demand the cancellation of the election of 9 August and the resignation of the CEP. Several presidential candidates attended the event including Me André Michel (JISTIS) and Maryse Narcisse (FANMI LAVALAS)...

Improvement in the next voting centers

"The voting centers are currently being evaluated and improvements will be made, since the church leaders make their premises available to the CEP," announced the President of the CEP, which states that

the time came, the network of voting centers will be operational.

Funds available for party financing

Jean Fritz Jean Louis, the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for the electoral matter, announced that the government is ready to fund political parties for the presidential elections of October 25, he said the funds are available. He wanted to clarify that funding will be controlled and political parties must meet certain requirements, noting that all the political structures that have already received a first payment in legislative elections, must submit to the State a preliminary report on the use of these funds.
