Haiti - Politic : President Maduro proposes a plan for the development of the Caribbean region

Sunday at the Commemorative Summit of PetroCaribe decade held in Montego Bay in Jamaica, that involved 19 heads of state and government including President Michel Martelly, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15055-haiti-politic-president-martelly-in-jamaica-for-the-petrocaribe-summit.html , Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro proposed to member countries of the Petrocaribe energy cooperation mechanism, to which Haiti belongs, the creation of an overall plan for the development of the Caribbean region until 2025.

In his speech the President Maduro mentioned four proposals of the plan he considers fundamental :

The first concerns the creation of a comprehensive economic space, commercial and financial which will allow the continuity of the progress of the geographic area and cooperation;

The second proposal is related to the consolidation of security and energy sovereignty of nations and associate members to Petrocaribe, including the continuing search for new sources of production;

For his third proposal, Maduro called for the creation of a common system of social protection for the Caribbean and encouraged in this system the fight against hunger, poverty and other scourges.

In the fourth proposal, the Head of State of Venezuela, stressed the need to create a civil defense mechanism against major natural hazards such as that recently experienced by Dominica in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika. President Maduro proposed to specifically follow the advice of Cuba, given its extensive experience in the effective confrontation of natural phenomena.

Furthermore, the Venezuelan President said that the gross domestic product of all of its members increased by 26%. It also noted that the increase recorded in the region in terms of human development is among the highest in the world "We got here, despite numerous attempts to destroy Petrocaribe since his birth and we are showing in this way that our people are able to grow if they remain united."
