Haiti - Politic : National Conference on the modernization of public transit

On Thursday, Prime Minister Evans Paul, launched the first National Conference on the "Search for for a structure of transport and mobility focuses on sustainability in Haiti" under the theme "Public transit in Haiti : issues and challenges of modernization". t was an opportunity for the Head of Government to remember that the installation of the National Commission for the modernization of public transit (CNMTC) on February 13, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13190-haiti-politic-national-commission-for-the-modernization-of-public-transit.html (created by Presidential Decree on February 4) showed the importance that the Government intended to grant to the transport sector.

The Prime Minister particularly stressed the need for public policy to promote competitiveness among companies in the sector by establishing a fund to facilitate access to credit. The modernization of public transit remains a challenge for the government, a challenge for the society, also stressed the Head of Government. He recalled that the CNMTCwill make recommendations taking into account the service costs of transport, in order to combat social exclusion of passengers using this means to move.

This two-day conference will be held under the auspices of the National Commission for the modernization of public transit and of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in agreement with drivers and vehicle owners unions, with of companies and investors of sector in the presence of various representatives of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Haitian civil society and international organizations.

Recall that the ECLAC, represented on this occasion by Ricardo Sanchez, Director of People and Resources Division, is a regional commission of the United Nations founded in 1948. As for the CNMTC, it was created for reaching recommendations anle to stimulate the modernization of the sector, to minimize the risk of traffic accidents and prevent loss of life and property.
