Haiti - Education : Reminder of instructions and measures for preschool
Following the validation of its management policy of early childhood, and given the importance of educating young children in support of initiatives already taken by civil society, the Ministry of National Education remember, a few days of the new school year (September 7th, 2015) that :
Pre-school education is for children under 6 years and the methods of working with these children must take into account the characteristics and needs of this age group ;
Children 6 years and over must integrate the fundamental school, whether or not they attended a preschool because their level of development match the characteristics other than those of under 6 ;
Pre-school aims the development of young children and therefore they should not be subjected to "repetition", except if they are too young and immature to integrate the 1st fundamental class ;
The ceremonies of "graduation" of children who complete the preschool have no legal or educational requirement and remain prohibited ;
The fundamental school should not, in any case, require children 6 years they are literate, as a prerequisite for admission.
For the well-being of all our children, the Minsitry encourages parents and schools to ensure that they incorporate classrooms intended for them and correspond to their level of development.
Departmental Directors, in consultation with ministry inspectors, will ensure the strict implementation of these measures.
Furthermore, the Minsitry informs that the new preschool curriculum will be distributed in 10,000 preschools working in Haiti and a series of training courses will be organized for those responsible for child care for 3 to 6 years. All new public school infrastructure will now be provided with the first two years of preschool.
