Sunday at Kioske Occide Jeanty, Champ de Mars, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by his wife Sophia Martelly and Prime Minister, Evans Paul, attended the closing ceremony of CARIFESTA XII.

In the presence of government officials, representatives of CARICOM, of delegations from participating countries, and thousands of spectators, local and international and Caribbean artists, who took part in this special evening, the Head of State took advantage of this ultimate rendezvous of this cultural manifestation of Caribbean countries, in order to the symbolic passing of the baton-relay of the CARIFESTA, to the Minister of Culture of Barbados, Stephen Lashley, the next host country of the event .

The various speakers at the ceremony agreed to recognize that this twelfth edition has kept its promises.

Douglas Slater, the CARICOM Assistant Secretary General, praised the welcome offered by Haitian delegations. For him, CARIFESTA XII has been "an opportunity for the Caribbean community to discover another face of Haiti, a rich cultural face, diverse and in harmony with its neighbors in the region."

The President Martelly thanked the delegations of CARICOM countries that have contributed significantly to the success of this event "Haitians will always bear in their heart this great mark of consideration, that brotherly peoples of the Caribbean have had for them by making Haiti the host country of CARIFEATA XII. They will always keep living the memories of performance of artists, writers, visual artists, choreographers, dancers, Caribbean singers during these demonstrations. Also they charge me to send you their warmest congratulations and sincere thanks."
