Haiti - Economy : Reactivation of the Task Force against smuggling

This week Wilson Laleau, the Minister of Economy and Finance and Yves Germain Joseph, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation proceeded to the reactivation of the Task Force for the Anti Smuggling Fight.

Recall that the Task Force is a specialized, multi-institutional Committee that includes the Ministry of Justice and Public Security through its components of the National Police and Government Commissioners of the 18 jurisdictions of the Republic, the Secretary of State for Tax Inspectorate, the Directorates-General of Customs, Tax, of the Unit for Combating Corruption (ULCC) and the Executive Secretariat of the Technical Commission of Borders (CTF).

Colonel Antoine Atouriste, Advisor to the Cabinet of the Minister of Economy and Finance will coordinate the work of the Task Force, in collaboration with the Technical Commission of Borders.

This approach participates from the outset in the implementation of the action plan against corruption by the Government since the last four years. This device is also designed to support the latest measures taken to strengthen the presence of state authority on all official border points. At the same time prevent the development of unauthorized crossings along the entire border strip in the short-term goal to increase the capacity of the Haitian government to collect taxes and duties, estimated to annual losses of about 300 to 500 million US dollars.

The resumption of works of the Task Force is also a response from the Government to the many calls of economic operators involved in transnational trade, victims in many ways of the dishonest actions committed on all sides by those who deal out the basic principles of law.
