Haiti - Economy : The Caracol Industrial Park in figures

Since its inauguration in November 2012 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-6965-haiti-economy-idb-inaugurates-the-new-caracol-industrial-park.html the Caracol Industrial Park (PIC) in the north of Haiti, continues to develop. From just over 1,300 jobs at its opening, the PIC should count more than 7,000 in 2015. 98% of employees are Haitian mostly women whose 80% had never had formal job before.

The PIC which notably houses the South Korean garment manufacturer, S & H Global (creation of 60 jobs per week), which provides clothes to American chains such as Target, Wal-Mart, Gap, and the Haitian painting company, Caribbean Paintings SA, has generated over $ 51 million of export (2014) and plans to exceed 100 million in 2015.

According to the National Society of Industrial Parks (Sonapi) to meet the growing needs of paid employees in the PIC , over 700 micro and small businesses have opened in the communities surrounding the park, generating economy and jobs.

Around the park between the park and the town of Limonade, nearly 8,500 homes have access to electricity for the first time thanks to a power plant of 10 megawatts for the PIC, funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) who also built over 750 houses, factory buildings, canteens, dormitories and a water and sanitation system to meet the demands of PIC current tenants and potential.

Moreover, the French Development Agency (AFD) should participate financially in a permanent site for solid waste management.
