Haiti - Elections : OAS appoints the heads of observation missions

Thursday, Luis Almagro, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), has appointed two heads of Election Observation Missions (EOM), that the institution will send in Haiti for the next elections.

Regarding the legislative elections (Senators and Deputies) is the former Foreign Minister of Costa Rica José Enrique Castillo, who will lead the EOM of August 9. For the presidential and municipal elections (October 25 for the first round and 27 December for the second, if necessary) the observation mission will be headed by former Brazilian Minister of Foreign Relations, Celso Amorim.

Note that since the first EOM (elections in Costa Rica in 1962), the OAS has deployed 227 election observation missions in the region, including 12 in Haiti, including the last for the 2011 elections.
