Haiti - Social : Inauguration of social housing in La Savane

As part of a pilot project of promotion of social housing, that targets the South Department, West, North and Northeast, the engineer Esson Dorisca, Director General of the Public Enterprise Social Housing Promotion (EPPLS) inaugurated a set of 6 duplex in the neighborhood "La Savane" in the city of Les Cayes (South Department), built in only 5 months to the costs of 9 million gourdes.

"These duplexes are proof that we can do more with more resources" said Mr. Dorisca. Each unit has an area of 102 m2, consists of two bedrooms, a multipurpose room (living room and dining room), WC, a kitchen and modern amenities.

Stressing that "Social housing is a national necessity" Esson Dorisca reminded that to qualify for one of these units, the selected families must come from a maximum 600 meter zone around the duplex and be able to pay regularly a modest monthly rent of 1,500 gourdes for the duration of the contract. A necessary fee for the continuation of this project.

Serge Chéry, the Departmental Delegate of the South, welcomed the initiative and hoped that the EPPLS can extend this project in the 10 departments of the country.
