Haiti - Ecuador : President Martelly pays tribute to Dessalines and Petion

Tuesday, the President Michel Martelly, to the special invitation by his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa, participated to Quito in a solemn Mass celebrated by Pope Francis on tour of 8 days in South America.

For his second Mass in Ecuador, Pope Francis front nearly a million faithful, has renewed his call for unity and dialogue. The first pontiff from South America denounced the temptation to lead single "We only advance when is put aside personal differences." His Holiness will fly Wednesday to Bolivia before ending its journey Friday in Paraguay.

The Head of State took advantage of this brief visit to meet with his Ecuadorian counterpart around major current issues. This bilateral meeting held immediately after the Eucharistic ceremony allowed the two leaders to think together about the best strategies to adopt to strengthen cooperation between the two sister nations and thus jointly contribute to progress towards the development of their respective countries.

The President of the Republic ended his stay with a visit to the new square of the Republic of Haiti, a symbol of the ties between the two countries, built in the center of Quito, Ecuador's capital https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-13787-icihaiti-politic-inauguration-in-quito-of-the-plaza-haiti.html where he laid a floral offering at the monument to the Republic Square (representing a flame, with the inscription "Haiti 1804") before gathering in front of the busts of the Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines and President Alexandre Petion.
