Haiti - Social : Human and Civil Rights of Haitian women

The Secretary of State for Literacy (Secrétairerie d’État à l’alphabétisation SEA) and UNESCO unite with ENFOFANM to organize activities of education to the citizenship and the women's rights. A series of activities of sensitizing near the women in six IDP camps (inter alia Corail, Tabarre-Issa, Léogane) has been underway since October 13 and will end on October 22.

These activities follow those organized on the occasion of International Literacy Day and are a first step of the project Education for Citizenship and Human Rights of Women that expect to make the SEA and UNESCO in partnership with ENFOFANM in the literacy centers of the metropolitan area. Indeed, these activities introduce content related to civic education and women's rights in relation to the electoral situation in 2010 and 2011. Furthermore, they seek to guide those interested to literacy centers that the SEA plans to open in camps in November under the new program. They will serve as pilot for the preparation of content-based knowledge of citizenship rights of the population and literacy as a means of access to these rights. When women are literate, it is society as a whole, which is winning" stated Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO, on September 8th.
