Haiti - Social : Mother's Day at the Pétion-ville prison

Sunday, at the initiative of the National Penitentiary Administration (APENA), women held in the civil prison of Petion-ville, have been able to celebrate Mother's Day. The day of activities that began with a Mass of thanksgiving on the court of the prison, was followed by an official ceremony and a cultural show.

In the presence of the Commissioner Jean Gardy Muscadin, the new director of APENA (April 2015), of Me Jacquenet Oxilus, the Secretary of State for Justice, Dr Jean Claudy Pierre, Chief of Staff of the Minister of Justice and Me Mona Jean, Head of the cabinet of Minister for Women, the prisoners exhibited handicrafts they made following the courses taken inside the prison. Then they showed their talent for dancing and singing before charmed the audience with a superb fashion show which featured among others, the outfits of inmates.

The Director of APENA wished a happy celebration to all mothers in prison and promised to do everything possible for their rehabilitation and social reintegration.

"All the government wants is that none of you remain in prison without trial. We want combating prolonged preventive detention to allow those of you who deserve it, to regain their freedom," said for his part, the Secretary of State Oxilus, warmly applauded by the inmates.
