Haiti - Education : Work stoppage to the professional school of Petit-Goâve

Tuesday, 18 teachers of the Professional Workshop-School of Petit-Goâve (AEPG), began a work stoppage to demand to the Haitian government the payment of more than 7 months of salary arrears and their letters of appointment.

These teachers have denounced in particular their supervisory institution, the National Institute of Vocational Training (INFP), which so far has not taken the necessary steps to regularize their situation. They pointed to Mr. Guillometre, the Director of the INFP, which, according to them refuses to cooperate in the smooth running of AEPG.

Richard Jean François, the Spokesman of teachers, ask officials to allow the NGOs Help to subsidize the school again, as it was before. He further stated that when the NGO Help subsidized this school, everything worked and there were no such problems, adding "the strike will only stop when our demands will be satisfied."

Several students of the AEPG brought their solidarity with teachers, saying that the claims are accurate.

Recall that the AEPG currently includes about 350 students who are trained especially in Cutting/Couture, Electricity/Construction, Plumbing/Building, computer and embroidery.
