Haiti - Tourism : Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, the private sector commits

Thursday, after the international seminar of the 58th meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) and the Commission of UNWTO allowed, during a ceremony, to 14 representatives from the tourism private sector, members of the Tourism Association of Haiti (ATH) to join the "Private Sector Commitment to the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism".

The signing of the Compromise formally commits the signatories, to save a set of ethical principles related to sustainability and responsible development of the practice of tourism.

One of the main objectives of this commitment is to make an emphasis to the social, cultural and economic issues, particularly in drawing attention to issues such as human rights, social inclusion, gender equality, accessibility and the protection of vulnerable groups and host communities.

By signing this agreement, the companies state that they seek to support, promote and implement the values of responsible and sustainable tourism development as advocated in the Code of Ethics.

Note that during the seminar, Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of UNWTO, stressed that if the responsible tourism must become a reality in today's world, it is essential that both components of the private sector and than their counterparts in public institutions, adhere to ethical principles of tourism, sustainable and accessible to all.
