Haiti - Security : Teaching children lifesaving techniques

Friday, the College « Le Normalien » located on Avenue Lamartinière, received the 120th edition of "Fridays of Civil Protection (DPC)" of the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities.

About 300 students of the College and other schools in the area including of the Marie-Jeanne High School and the Antenor Firmin High School, enthusiastically welcomed the forty volunteers of the DPC, of the Red Cross and members of the Thematic Committee Education and Public Awareness (CTESP), promoter of this activity.

After the national anthem, and warm-up movements, students have invested from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the different areas of simulation exercises and the ten workshops to raise awareness about the behaviors to adopt to deal with emergencies and save lives before the arrival of relief.

Preparing emergency kits, transporting injured, fire control by the use of the extinguisher or the bucket method relays, seamanship techniques to hoist a jammed victim on the floor of a house or at the bottom of a well, attitudes to have in earthquake situation were the main activities of this day.

This session was successful in terms of student involvement and professionalism of the volunteers of the DPC. Note that this is also the first of a whole series of activities in prelude to the opening of the hurricane season.
