Haiti - Culture : Birth of the first audiovisual bank of Haitian music

This Friday, Ayiti Mizik, the association of professionals of the music and the Haiti Jazz Foundation will proceed to the launch of their "iconotheque", the first audiovisual database of Haitian music in Haiti.

Initiated in 2011, following the earthquake when the lack of national archives became terribly feel, thanks to "Fil-culture" program of the Foundation Culture Creation, with funding from the "Fondation de France", the project was completed in 2015 with the support of the Swiss Embassy in Haiti. The "iconotheque" currently includes 23 video interviews, 23 stories, 23 professionals from the Haitian music industry. This project, which initially focused on the oldest or more fragile personalities, should be fed regularly.

Recall that the Haitian music was built with the history : of the independence to the Republic, the dictatorship, the democracy, singers and musicians were both carriers of national identity or spokespersons creating musical styles such as Konpa, Rasin or the kreyol rap. This cultural wealth remains nevertheless, very few considered and little known, that is why Ayiti Mizik and Haiti Jazz Foundation decided to implement this project of video capture of icons of Haitian music.
