Haiti - Politic : The Government calls for calm

The Ministry of Communication informs that "the Government has learned with dismay the tragic death of second Sergeant of the Chilean contingent Rodrigo Andrés Sanhueza Soto of the Minustah, during a demonstration of residents of Ouanaminthe demanding electricity, Monday, April 13, 2015 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13601-haiti-flash-extreme-tension-at-the-border-a-peacekeeper-shot-dead.html

The Government has also learned that an agent 4 of the Haitian National Police, Joseph Lafrance Laforest, was attacked by unidentified individuals, who took away his service weapon. The agent Laforest was rushed to the hospital.

The Haitian Government extends its condolences to the Government of the sister Republic of Chile and to the entire civilian and military personnel of the Minustah. The Government expresses its solidarity with the Haitian National Police (PNH) and strongly condemns these odious acts and will make every effort to identify the perpetrators soi that they are punished in accordance with the Law.

The Government also condemns the violence in all its forms, which only sow desolation and grief in the country, and deplores the shameless exploitation of the claims of the population, by some sectors, for political ends.

It should be noted that the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) supplies the towns of Fort-Liberté and Ouanaminthe in electrical energy 6 hours a day on weekdays and 12 hours on weekends. Currently, the technicians of the EDH work tirelessly to strengthen the power distribution in the communes of Fort-Liberté, Ouanaminthe and Savanne Carré.

The government team renews its determination to be at the listing of its citizens and to work to improve the living conditions of the population. The Government launched, once again, an appeal for calm to the Northeast population and urges it to exercise vigilance and serenity."
